KUNUNURRA , WYNDHAM &  THE  EAST  KIMBERLEY

The East Kimberley is situated in the far north of Western Australia. It’s immense and ancient landforms encompass rugged ranges, spectacular gorges, cascading waterfalls, mighty rivers and complex cave systems. It’s history is diverse. Covering an area in excess of 423,000 km2, it is 3 times the size of EnglandThe Diversion Dam on the Ord River - Lake Kununurra in the East Kimberley. It is truly a wilderness area, commonly known as “The Last Frontier”.

Kununurra is set in the heart of the Kimberley ranges, surrounded by natural wonders from the Bungle Bungles, Cockburn and Carr Boyd Ranges to the beautiful clear waterways that link Lake Argyle, Kununurra and Wyndham. Wyndham, known as the Top Town of the West is steeped in history that is intimately linked with the mining and cattle industries.

Kununurra is a picturesque, exciting town, just 40km from the Northern Territory border. It’s population is moving towards 7000 people Black Rock Falls - Kununurrra in the wet seasonmaking it one of the significant towns in the Kimberley. Kununurra is the Eastern Gateway to the Kimberley region home of extreme outback adventure. First established during 1960 as the centre for the Ord River Project, Kununurra has become the major administrative centre for the East Kimberley, servicing farmers, pastoralists, the mining industry and a rapidly developing tourism industry. A range of restaurants and a wide variety of sports exist within the town.  There are numerous things to see and do in and around the local area, ranging from the agricultural industry and many plantations to Art Galleries, Argyle Diamond Mine (home of the rare and exclusive pink diamond), Aboriginal Culture and beautiful ranges and valleys that surround the town.

Lake Argyle is situated 70km from the town and was built by the damming of the mighty Ord River in 1972. It has become a major tourist attraction and become home to almost a third of the Australian bird species. It is the largest fresh water storage reservoir in Australia and supports a hydro scheme which supplies power to Argyle Diamond Mine, Kununurra and Wyndham. Many of the local residents revel in it’s stunning scenery and waterways being the perfect venue for boating and recreation + fun. The idyllic tropical weather compliments such an outdoor lifestyle.

Wyndham is a small town situated 100km northwest of Kununurra, boasting extensive history of the early pioneers and their expeditions. It is surrounded by some of the most spectacular landforms, rivers and wetlands in the Kimberley. It is also well known as one of the best scenic lookouts in Australia, “The Bastion” or commonly referred to as “Five Rivers’ Lookout”, home of the exquisite Bicentennial Dreamtime Statues and home to the historical Wyndham Port. Wyndham presents a true frontier town.

Kununurra and The East Kimberley is home to the award winning “Ord Valley Muster”. Which is held Annually in May. The area is rich with outdoor adventure, lifestyle, industry, art, cultural, historical, sporting and competitive activities. Some of these activities throughout the year include:

The East Kimberley is a region full of investment opportunities. It’s unprecedentedbeautiful Kimberley coastline growth in mining, agriculture and tourism has created a thriving region with many exciting opportunities. The projected growth for this region is escalating at a significantly rapid rate. Many new young families are moving to the area which is creating  communities with new infrastructure within the towns, which in turn creates positive employment and investment opportunities.
